I am not 100% if drivers are REQUIRED to use this reader (I don't remember if I installed any before my first use) however, if you need any you can find them on the HID website in the "drivers & downloads" section.
This does have a blue indicator light to signify connectivity and flashes when accessing the CAC card.

I use this product with the Mac OS operating system and as seen in the images the system has no problem seeing the reader and identifying the actual company. The CAC card once inserted actually sticks out at the corners which is not all in conflict with the regular use of the product. The main part the would hold your CAC card during use is plastic and the cable is your typical rubber or plastic like other cables. The overall build q uality is pretty good. HID is a worldwide leader in access card systems and so I knew that I would be able to trust the quality and usability of this reader. I had been in the market for a while for a CAC reader and the big reason I decided to go with the particular one was because of the company brand.
